These terms cover your use of the Trailtold app and this website. Trailtold is currently in closed beta. By creating an account you agree to what follows. If you got the app from Apple's App Store, Apple's standard license terms for apps also apply, and these terms add to them rather than replace them.
You need to be at least 13 years old to create an account. You're responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your password to yourself. Give us an email address you can actually receive mail at — it's how we'd reach you about your account.
Trailtold is a shared record of places that matter. These are the rules you agree to when you post, and the ones our moderators apply. This page is the full version of the guidelines you acknowledged in the app.
Be a good neighbor on the trail.
How this is enforced. Contributions are reviewed by a moderator before anyone else can see them. Tour reviews appear immediately, and anyone can report one; reported content is looked at and removed if it breaks these rules. You can also block another user, which hides their content from you everywhere in the app. Violations are removed. Repeat offenders lose access to their account.
What you write stays yours. To be able to show it to other people, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, display, and distribute your contributions inside Trailtold and on this website, and to make the ordinary technical copies that hosting requires. You keep the right to be identified by your display name.
That license lasts as long as you keep the content posted. Delete a contribution, or delete your account, and it ends. You confirm that you have the right to post what you post.
We can remove any content that breaks these guidelines, and we can suspend or terminate an account that repeatedly does. We may also remove content or suspend accounts where we're legally required to. We aim to be fair about this, but we don't guarantee that every piece of content is reviewed correctly, and moderation is partly automated — for example, some display names are refused automatically.
Trailtold is free to browse. Some features are paid, either as a subscription or as a one-time purchase that unlocks a single park. Current prices are shown in the app and on the store listing before you buy.
All payments are handled by Apple or Google, not by us. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, and you cancel or manage them in the App Store or Google Play — not in Trailtold. Deleting your Trailtold account does not cancel a subscription. Refunds are governed by Apple's and Google's policies; we can't issue them directly. Entitlements follow your Trailtold account: sign in with the same account on any platform and your purchases are already there. "Restore purchases" re-checks the store receipt on the device that bought it.

Trailtold is designed so you can walk with your phone in your pocket, but it does not know where you actually are in the physical world.Pay attention to your surroundings, not to the app. Watch for traffic, trail conditions, weather, wildlife, and drop-offs. Follow the posted rules and closures of the park you're in. Don't use Trailtold while driving. You're responsible for your own safety and for deciding whether a route is appropriate for you.
Park and place information comes from the National Park Service and is in the public domain. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License; the app currently draws its map tiles from MapLibre's public demo tile server, as described in our privacy policy. Trailtold is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the National Park Service or any other government agency.
Trailtold is provided as-is during the beta. It runs on test infrastructure, it will have bugs, features will change, and we can't promise it will be available without interruption. We may need to reset test data during the beta; we'll give notice where we reasonably can. Don't rely on Trailtold as your only copy of anything.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Trailtold is provided without warranties of any kind, and we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of it. Nothing here limits liability that can't legally be limited — and nothing here affects the rights you have as a consumer under the law of the place you live.
You can delete your account at any time fromProfile → Delete account in the app; seedeleting your account for exactly what that removes. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.
Deleting your account forfeits anything you bought under it, including park packs and any remaining subscription time. Purchases are tied to the account that made them and cannot be restored onto a new one. Deleting also doesnot cancel a subscription — cancel it in the App Store or Google Play first, or the store will keep billing you for an account that no longer exists.
We'll update this page when the terms change, and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll say so in the app. Continuing to use Trailtold after a change means you accept the updated terms.
